I’m Shelby Nicholl
I’m a 25-year corporate vet who spent most of her career in wealth management, including A.G. Edwards (way back when), Edward Jones (nearly a decade!) and LPL Financial, the largest independent broker-dealer in the US. After rising through the ranks to Director at Edward Jones and Senior Vice President at LPL, I found myself yearning to help advisors lead their businesses into the future.
Beyond my work, I’m a wife, mom, daughter, granddaughter, sister and friend to many. I grew up in rural Missouri (my town IS smaller than yours), and I cherish my small town values. I’m also a proud graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia and Washington University in St. Louis. My family and I are happiest sitting waterfront on sunny days in Innsbrook, Missouri.
About the Name “Muriel”
The inspiration for the company name was Muriel “Mickie” Siebert, the first woman member of the NYSE. Muriel Siebert was also a break-away advisor. When the firm she worked for wouldn’t pay her equally to her male colleagues, she started her own. She was a maverick and a trailblazer - the true original Fearless Girl.
Passion Project: Muriel Network
I’m passionate about accelerating the success of women in wealth management.
Wealth management is at a critical inflection point due to changing demographics hitting up against under-representation by women and people of color. There’s a $30 Trillion wealth transfer underway to women clients. Yes, less than a quarter of all financial advisors or wealth planners are women. And, less than a quarter of senior leaders within the broker-dealers, RIAs, custodians and asset managers are women. Those of us in the industry need to stick together, share our wisdom and accelerate growth.
Muriel Network is a digital community space that creates more “togetherness” and less “only-ness” for women in the industry.
